What is PTA?
PTA stands for Parent Teacher Association, an organization that aims to improve schools for children to learn in. PTAs are made up of parents, teachers, administrators, students, and community members who work together to support the school and its students.
For more than 100 years, the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) has provided support, information and resources to families focused on the health and education of children.

Why does my school have a PTA, not a PTO?FWCS is a strong supporter of having PTAs, not PTOs, in our school buildings. Our administrators believe in the advocacy and work that PTA does for ALL children. PTA works hand in hand, side by side, with the district to host and participate in events that benefit our FWCS family and communities. Because we have PTAs in our district, our school level PTA units have constant support and resources from FWCS, Indiana PTA, and the Fort Wayne Area PTA Council. The parents, families, and staff who run our PTAs are never alone; they are part of something bigger! We encourage you to become part of that team! Diversity and Inclusion in Fort Wayne PTAPTA is for EVERYONE and we encourage you to find out what we are about! Come meet with a group of people who you may not usually hang out with. We want you to feel like you belong! Our goal for the 24- 25 school year is to increase our accessibility to everyone in FWCS! We are bringing back our Male Engagement Committee and Diversity Committee! Join our team and help us out! For more information about diversity and inclusion within our FWCS PTAs please contact the D&I Chair - Kathy Toliver at [email protected] |
What does it mean to be a member?
How much of my time does this take?
The top two reasons we hear parents say they don't join PTA are:
1) They were not asked.
This is us asking!
2) They do not have time.
What if I told you that the amount of time you spend participating in your school's PTA is 100% up to you!
You could pay your dues and walk away.
You could pay your dues and read an email from your PTA from time to time to stay up to date.
You could donate once or twice for a conference meal.
You could come to your PTA unit's meeting to be in the know.
You could join a committee and help out!
You could run one committee or event.
You could become a board member and help grow the PTA at your school.
PTA takes no time requirement if you do not want to.
Your dues help support the events and activities in your school in addition to PTA in the Fort Wayne Area, and at the State and National level!
Your students love seeing you in the building and supporting them and their education!
