What is PTA?

PTA stands for Parent Teacher Association, an organization that aims to improve schools for children to learn in. PTAs are made up of parents, teachers, administrators, students, and community members who work together to support the school and its students.

For more than 100 years, the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) has provided support, information and resources to families focused on the health and education of children.

Why does my school have a PTA, not a PTO?

FWCS is a strong supporter of having PTAs, not PTOs, in our school buildings. Our administrators believe in the advocacy and work that PTA does for ALL children. PTA works hand in hand, side by side, with the district to host and participate in events that benefit our FWCS family and communities.

Because we have PTAs in our district, our school level PTA units have constant support and resources from FWCS, Indiana PTA, and the Fort Wayne Area PTA Council. The parents, families, and staff who run our PTAs are never alone; they are part of something bigger! We encourage you to become part of that team!

Diversity and Inclusion in Fort Wayne PTA

PTA is for EVERYONE and we encourage you to find out what we are about! Come meet with a group of people who you may not usually hang out with. We want you to feel like you belong!

Our goal for the 25-26 school year is to increase our accessibility to everyone in FWCS! We are bringing back our Male Engagement Committee and Diversity Committee! Join our team and help us out!

For more information about diversity and inclusion within our FWCS PTAs please contact the D&I Chair - Kathy Toliver at [email protected]

What does it mean to be a member?

How much of my time does this take?

The top two reasons we hear parents say they don't join PTA are:
1) They were not asked.
 This is us asking!
2) They do not have time.
What if I told you that the amount of time you spend participating in your school's PTA is 100% up to you!
You could pay your dues and walk away.
You could pay your dues and read an email from your PTA from time to time to stay up to date.
You could donate once or twice for a conference meal.
You could come to your PTA unit's meeting to be in the know.
You could join a committee and help out!
You could run one committee or event.
You could become a board member and help grow the PTA at your school.
PTA takes no time requirement if you do not want to.
Your dues help support the events and activities in your school in addition to PTA in the Fort Wayne Area, and at the State and National level!
Your students love seeing you in the building and supporting them and their education!
How do I become a member?
We are happy to say that ALL of our schools in FWCS have a PTA! For most of the schools you can join by clicking the link below and choosing your student's school. There you can find things from their PTA calendar to how to sign up. Is your school's membership form missing? How do i join?
What do I get for being a member?
Your PTA membership keeps you "in the know" about events going on in the school. You are invited to help with the planning of events and support of the school's staff, students, and community. Your membership also makes you an automatic member of the Indiana and National PTAs. You can find out more below about the purpose of those groups. As a member of a unit in the Fort Wayne Area PTA you will be provided with a discount card that is good at over 40 local businesses!

Will I be included?
Absolutely! Fort Wayne PTA Council and our units are open to all parents, guardians, family members, community members, staff, etc to join! We welcome you all and want you to be part of our team in advocating for ALL students. Find out more below in our Diversity and Inclusion section of this page!
Is there a way for me to grow within the PTA?
Like we said above, you can participate in PTA however works for you. From donating and walking away - to being part of the board - every member is needed and cherished! Not a leader, but want to meet other parents and families? PTA can be that place for you! Want to further  your dedication to our area students? Our area Council is always looking for people to join our board or chair/help with a committee. You even can move up to a state position with Indiana PTA! There is a spot for everyone! Contact us at [email protected] to find out more about getting involved.

A Note From Our President
A Note From Our President

At Fort Wayne Area PTA Council, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to succeed, feel supported, and thrive both inside and outside the classroom. During the 26–27 school year, we are committed to being Future Forward — working together to strengthen education, support student well-being, and create meaningful opportunities for ALL students.

PTA is more than a membership — it is a powerful partnership between families, schools, and communities. When parents unite through PTA, their voices create lasting impact. Together, we can advocate for stronger educational experiences, support programs that benefit students, encourage family engagement, and help shape a positive future for every child.

Your involvement matters. Whether you volunteer, attend events, share ideas, or simply become a member, you are helping build a stronger school community where every student feels valued, encouraged, and empowered to succeed.

We invite YOU to join us in making a difference. Encourage your friends, family, and even community members to become part of our PTA family and help us continue moving Future Forward for our students, schools, and community. If you would like more information about your school’s PTA or how to get involved, please reach out. I would be honored to help you begin your PTA journey.

Together, we can ensure every child has a voice and every student has the support they deserve.

Tiffany Eckert
Fort Wayne Area PTA Council President
